"Bill and Ben are identical twins. They are 0-4-0 saddle tank engines and belong to the Sodor China Clay Company. They work between the china clay pits and the harbor at Brendam. Edward keeps them in order, and the diesel Boco soon learned their ways as well. Then Boco was able to help when Gordon was sent down the wrong line by mistake!" 
"Bill and Ben are twins : identical in every respect and, it is fair to say, probably the most teasing and mischievious characters of the railway family. They wear big identical grins and work mostly between the clay pits."
